Yoga Overview
Definition
Yoga loosely means “to yoke” or unite, and is a scientific system of reuniting the individual soul with Infinite Spirit. It can be practiced by individuals of any religious orientation, or, with no formal faith tradition.
Hatha yoga, commonly referred to as yoga, is the physical branch of a larger system, Raja Yoga, otherwise known as the Royal Path, and is only one part of the full yoga science. Yoga uses stretches, postures, and breathing to align the body, open and strengthen its subtle energy systems, plus clarify inner awareness. Its ancient purpose was to make the body and mind fit for deep meditation.
About Center Yoga Classes
Center Yoga classes combine careful instruction on body alignment, breathing, energy flow and affirmations with comments on yoga philosophy. Yoga provides students the tools to begin slowing down, nourish the body, quiet the mind, and find a haven of silence within. Practiced in a safe, non-judgmental, and mindful manner, it is ideal for people seeking greater balance and peace in their lives. Every session concludes with a period of deep relaxation.
Q. What if I just want to relax and stretch?
A. You will find these classes deliver. Take what you want from them and focus on feeling better.
Q. Do I Need Prior Experience?
A. Not at all. Regardless of background, skill, age, flexibility, weight, etc., each class meets people at their level to help them grow further. Don’t worry if this is all new, you’ll find it very enjoyable and enriching! If you have physical injuries or other limitations, be sure to inform the instructor right away.
Practice Guidelines
As with anything, practice makes perfect. In this case, students are not expected to become perfect in yoga postures. Rather, they should use them to add balance, peace, and enjoyment to their life. Try to do some daily. The more you do and feel the benefit, the easier it is to make them part of your lifestyle.
