Meditation

Meditation is at the heart of spiritual development. Every faith has a form of meditative practice that enables participants to commune directly with the Divine. While meditation may seem easy for some or difficult for others, the truth is that proper understanding and technique make all the difference. It is not simply closing the eyes and "hoping for the best."

Meditation Training Program

Everyone wants to feel happy and peaceful. Such qualities are of Spirit and can be found through meditation. This 4-part program promotes a joyful, balanced life by providing time-tested meditation techniques plus understanding of the scientific, universal spiritual principles that support it.

This 4-part class series teaches participants about:

  • The Spiritual Journey
  • Universal Code of Conduct
  • Freeing the Body of Tension
  • How to Quiet the Mind
  • Why Meditation Works
  • Scientific Concentration Technique
  • Meditation on Inner Sound/Light

If you can't sit on the floor, notify the instructor. A folding chair can be provided.

Practice Guidelines

Much of this will be covered during the training. As with anything, proper practice increases outcomes. Meditation adds balance and enjoyment to life. Do some daily. The more you do, the more you'll want to do. The less you do, the easier it is to stop altogether.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What Kind Of Meditation Do You Teach?
A: Meditation is a bit like tea. There are many varieties yet all operate on similar premises. People need to select what they like and work with it. My approach is to draw from the treasure drove of classical yoga since it's been around for thousands of years and maps out the process thoroughly. In particular, I rely on the insightful teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi, and apply these in an ecumenical fashion so people can be nourished in ways most meaningful for them.

Q: Do I Have To Switch Religions To Practice Meditation?
A: Definitely not! Meditation is a universal tool harnessed by all faith traditions to "Seek the Kingdom Within". Many people are interested in deepening their inner life through meditation but lack the knowledge, tools, or group support to do so. What I offer is the benefit of 30+ years experience in eastern disciplines, and especially classical yoga, to make spiritual practices more accessible to participants of all religions. People should achieve an enhanced relationship with Spirit in harmony with their personal orientation.

Q: How Soon Do I Notice Results?
A: Spiritual development is not a race and can't be measured as such. Ironically, the harder one tries to obtain results, the more they tend to be pushed away. It's a long-term relationship that has all the ups and downs of human ones. Sometimes we may have profound experiences, at other times feel dry. What's important is to keep at it with love for God. Rome wasn't built in one day, nor are we. That said, it isn't uncommon to note an increasing sense of peace and joy right from the start. These are like sparks that should be blown upon by increasing practice until they blaze in full.

Q: Do I Need Prior Experience & How Much Time Should I Spend?
A: No prior experience is needed. Like many things, though, even if one is knowledgeable in an area, revisiting it can enrich understanding. However, previous experience is certainly not necessary. As for time commitment, this varies according to interest level and life schedules. I avoid hard and fast rules because peoples' needs differ. Start with a minimum that can be committed to and build from there. The more one does, the more they'll want to do.
